Native people seemed to always embellish their possessions. Whether it be shirts or weapons of war, they always added character to their bare necessities. This time consuming practice could add meaning and personalization to their possessions. With the introduction of the white man into their native lands the indians began to adopt aspects of the white mans society in order to compete with him. Some of the white mans ways actually made it easier for the native american to exist. The bow had always been important to the indian. With the white man came the introduction of firearms. The indians adapted to this new form of power but also added touches of their own. The firearm became an object for embellishment. Tacks were generally used on gun stocks and forearms in elaborate patterns. I have also seen horse hair and other forms of decoration used on these objects.

I became fascinated by the firearms offered in the indian style in the form of the Winchester 94 and Marlin lever action rifles by various modern day companies. The Crazy Horse rifle offered in the form of the Winchester 94 rifle is a work of art. Artful scenes on the side plates of the rifles along with tactful tack decorations on the wood parts of the rifles were awe inspiring. The art work on the Marlin firearm that I witnessed was art elevated to it’s highest level.

I had a Winchester 94 in my possession that was not new and had also taken deer sized game in it’s life. The gun was in good shape with good wood and excellent bluing. This was my project. I had looked at the various examples of decorations on various rifles. I decided to make my own art work on this rifle my own personal expression. The tack work followed the traditional lines of indian inspired rifle work. On one side of the stock I decorated the rifle with the out line of one of the most inspiring power animals in Indian lore. On the other side of the stock the tacks followed the lines of a teepee with a silver coin with period illustrations emblazoned upon it. This rifle is now a valued part of my collection.

The Indian also decorated the tool he used in religious ceremonies. The drum was very important to the Indian. Part of its use was a tool used to communicate with the other world and spirits. Modern science has verified that certain drum beats transform ones brain into a type of receiver and transmitter. The drum changes the wave and state of your brain pattern. The indians mainly used animal hides to make a covering for the drum. Beating on this material produced the tone so many of us are familiar with. Synthetic material is a better transmitter of tonal quality than the animal hide.

My drum arrived at my home having started out life as animal hide and wood being crafted by tribal Indians. Animal hide reacts to changes in temperature and barometric pressure. Humid days change the tonal capacity of animal hide drums. I began by using a sealer both front and back to the animal hide to help guard against changes in weather conditions.I am not the fine artist in the family. I crafted a legible rendition of the scene that I wanted on the drum. In this case the scene involved a high desert scene with several teepees and a camp fire. My wife did wonders with the desert scenery and cactus. It was dusk on the desert and night was approaching. The sky reflected this aspect of the clock. Above this scene in shadowy tones was the power animal that benefitted the moment. Additional decoration was added with leather lacing and hand painted feathers that resembled those of the eagle. With the help of my spouse I was able to add another valuable decoration to our home.

There are many legalities related to playing Airsoft in the United States. For those of you who may not know what Airsoft is, I’ll be more than happy to provide a brief explanation of it for you. Airsoft is a game in which players defeat their opponents by firing non-metallic pellets at them from a compressed air gun. These air guns are powered by one of three ways, which are manual spring-load, electrically powered gearbox or gas.

In the United States, there typically is no minimum age requirement for playing Airsoft. This is because Airsoft guns are not considered firearms here and are therefore considered legal for all ages. However, common sense needs to prevail here. I think it’s obvious to most that you probably wouldn’t want a young child such as a toddler playing with an Airsoft gun. This is because although not nearly as dangerous as a regular firearm, Airsoft guns can still potentially cause some serious injuries if not handled properly.

The individual laws actually vary from state to state, so before purchasing an air gun for your child or letting them use one, you’ll want to do a little research on your state’s laws. For example, in Minnesota, it’s considered illegal for any child under the age of 14 to be in possession of an Airsoft gun unless they’re being supervised by a parent or other adult. Also, it’s illegal for any child under the age of 18 in Minnesota to purchase an Airsoft gun without first obtaining their parents permission.

In California, only adults are allowed to buy Airsoft guns. Children in California are only permitted to use Airsoft guns if they’ve first acquired their parents’ permission. If you’re the parent of a child who wants to use an Airsoft gun, there is one major factor that you’ll want to take into consideration.

Airsoft guns are often very detailed and realistic looking and have many times been mistaken for the real thing by members of law enforcement. Therefore, if you do decide to let your child use an Airsoft gun, never, ever let them use it in public, as it’s possible that a police officer might think the gun is a real firearm and consequently shoot them. Also, to help differentiate an Airsoft gun from a regular firearms weapons, most states require the Airsoft guns to have a bright orange tip on them.

One tragic example of a child not taking this requirement seriously occurred in Longwood, Florida back in 2006. A student brought his air gun to school and since he had previously painted over the orange tip, a sheriff’s deputy assumed that his air gun was a “real” gun. The student had been threatening the other kids with it. Fearing for his life as well as the lives of all the teachers and students there, he shot the student, and the student subsequently died.

So, please make sure that your child understands the importance of having a highly visible 6 mm orange tip on their Airsoft gun. The possession of Airsoft guns in United States schools is simply not tolerated. Depending on the nature of the offense, the most common punishments for kids having Airsoft guns at school is either a temporary suspension, or in some cases the child may be permanently expelled from that school..

Next, let’s discuss what type of Airsoft safety equipment is required to play soft air games in the U.S. So far there isn’t any safety equipment that’s legally required in order to play Airsoft in this United States. However, eye injuries with this sport could potentially be very severe. Therefore, safety goggles are an absolute must have! Also, some people have been known to receive injuries such as a chipped tooth from getting a direct hit to the mouth. Therefore, many people like to use face masks which cover your face and mouth while playing Airsoft.

Some models even have the goggles and face mask combined which are especially nice as they offer thorough all-in-one protection. Airsoft tactical vests help protect the body from getting hit directly by an Airsoft BB. Also, they often have pockets that allow you to carry extra guns, BB’s and anything else you might need. Helmets are also great to have as they of course, help protect your head from receiving any direct injuries.

Plus, helmets can make the game even more fun by making it seem more realistic. As far as your regular clothing goes, you’ll want to be sure to wear long pants and long sleeved shirts since they both offer full coverage. Full coverage clothing will help to minimize the impact of getting hit by BB’s.

As far as where to play, U.S. regulations require Airsoft to be played on private property only. A large yard could work well. However, should you decide to play Airsoft in your backyard, be sure to notify your neighbors in advance. This way they’ll know what to expect and you won’t inadvertently frighten them.

Another choice for outdoor play is one of the many specially designed Airsoft fields. Just do a quick search online, and you will most likely be able to find one in your area. There are also indoor facilities across the U.S. that will allow you to play Airsoft. This is great because it allows you to play Airsoft, even during inclement weather. Due to insurance regulations, all indoor Airsoft facilities require the use of a full face mask. This is because they want to make sure they’re protected in the event you end up getting some sort of facial injury.

Hunting of wild boar or wild hog is not permitted all over the United States. It is confined to just 15 states. The popular states are Kentucky, South Carolina, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Alabama, Ohio, Florida, Hawaii, Oklahoma and California. Each state has its own set of hunting laws. A satisfying hunting trip demands familiarity with all of them. If the hunter decides to take the services of an outfitter complete with guides and hog hunting dogs, some amount has to be shelled out as license fees.

The wild boar is found in regions which have dense thickets. Big in size, it is known to be very alert and ferocious. Also, the animal senses danger from the whole group stalking it and so is cautious enough to keep itself well hidden. Of the two hog hunting dogs, the cur is to be used as a bay dog, while the other one is meant for catching work.

There are hybrid varieties of the standard American Bulldog. When the combination is that of a Mastiff, American Bulldog and English Bulldog, it is referred to as Johnson lines. The early settlers of America were keen on using Old English Whites and Scott lines American Bulldogs, believing them to be great hog hunting dogs. In fact, these breeds even hunted wild bulls!

Another group of people swear by the abilities of the Pitt Bull mixes or Pitt Bull Terriers. Of course, the skeptics wonder how a hog weighing 400 pounds can be beaten by a Pitt!

Australians and Argentinians keep other breeds as hog hunting dogs. While some prefer the Argentina Dogo, others go for the Blackmouth cur. The best one is supposed to be the Australian Bullarab. It has come from a 30-year mixed lineage of Grey Hound, Pointer and Bull Terrier. Both, wild boar and scrub bulls are easy prey for this dog!

Chinese Level 2 Win/Mac Personal Edition [Old Version] I was originally using Rosetta Stone’s Chinese program through online subscription. I went several times through the entire program before I decided that monthly subscription was getting expensive and since I enjoyed going over this program very much I finally decided to purchase it.

The online version has Chinese only written with pinyin and I was a little bit disappointed that it didn’t have Chinese characters anywhere. When I received the package, I was thrilled and delighted to find that it had two books included and the books had all the material written both with Chinese characters and pinyin. This has taken my enjoyment of this program to a new level.

I do need to add that I have purchased numerous other books and programs, so this is not the only one I have been using – and the other books and programs have helped me tremendously in using this one.

Working with the entire Pimsleur program first has helped me tremendously in working with Rosetta Stone, as did many other books that deal with grammar and writing. First developed in the late 1960s, TASER technology was developed by a research scientist at NASA. His goal was to provide non-lethal protection options. Taser International was born when the inventor and the Smith brothers, Rick and Tom, joined forces. The catalyst for the Smiths was the shooting death of two high school friends who were felled by someone carrying a licensed firearm.

First, let’s look at TASERs. They provide long-distance protection. Using a replaceable TASER cartridge which holds a compressed type of inert gas (nitrogen), a TASER fires a pair of barbed projectiles toward the attacker. The projectiles are attached to highly conductive, insulated wires coming from the hand-held device. The wires conduct a 50,000 volt shock to the attacker at a distance up to 15 feet (4.5 meters). The newer models are capable of delivering stopping power not only through thick clothing (up to a cumulative total of two inches) but even through Level III body armor, like a bullet-proof vest.

Second, take a look at stun guns. These non-lethal weapons do not fire any sort of projectile. While they come in an amazing variety of shapes and sizes (like cell phones, flashlights, etc.), the one thing they have in common is that the stun gun must come in contact with the assailant. This means the “bad buy” will have to be a lot closer than if you were firing a TASER. Nevertheless, they pack a hefty charge and are capable of reducing a big, hulking attacker to being unable to stand or direct his muscles. The jolt of a 50,000 volt surge through his body interrupts the attacker’s ability to make any deliberate moves. The result: you have time to 1) escape and/or 2) call for reinforcements before the bad guy recovers.

Now for the best of both worlds: Taser International has invented a product that combines the advantage of keeping potential attackers at a distance and provides close quarters defense. The TASER C2, as in regular TASERs, fires its darts up to 15 feet, providing anyone with the ability to protect oneself and family members from danger.

Also, the TASER C2 also has the ability to function as a stun gun. Even after the projectiles have been fired, the TASER C2 can be used at close quarters. It can also deliver a debilitating jolt without having the projectile cartridge installed. The backup capability seriously elevates the usefulness and diversity of the device. That means that with a single weapon, you have the advantage of both a direct contact stun gun and a distance conscious TASER.

The advantage of these take down power options provides the brief amount of time needed to defuse or escape a dangerous situation. In addition, the TASER C2 comes in a variety of colors, is ergonomically designed, and packs a Lithium Power Magazine good for at least 50 applications. All told, the TASER C2 provides a whole lot of bang for the buck.

TurboTax State Multi-State 2004 Win/Mac Decent – M. Chabot – USA
TurboTax State installed without any problems on my Mac, running 10.3.8. The program was free after rebate and I received my rebate promptly from Intuit. The program is decent, although it does not do much. PA taxes aren’t that complicated to being with. One complaint is that the program dumped me into a PA Schedule C instead of asking whether I want a PA Schedule C or a PA Schedule C-F. I went to forms and created a schedule C-F, then went back to the interview, and my schedule C-F was there. This procedure would not be obvious to someone who was not already very familiar with this program.

I am not sure why someone would want to pay .95 for the State e-filing. There is no rebate for the state filing. So when you file your taxes electronically, make sure you select Federal only, then print out your state tax return and mail it in.

I have used TurboTax products since 1995, with the exception of trying TaxCut last year, which was a disaster. The TurboTax State product had no difficulty quickly and accurately completing tax returns for my state (Minnesota) after finishing my federal return.

As some other reviewers have correctly noted, the name of the product (”Multi-State”) is somewhat deceptive, in that you get to choose one state return to file; if you have to file for more than one state you have to pay for additional state downloads. This is the primary reason I gave the product four stars: functionally it was easy to use and intuitive, and I had no problems of any sort with it (I have Windows XP running on a 2003 vintage computer).

This product isn’t perfect, but it does a good job, and is enormously superior to TaxCut in every way.
